The Story
Lehua Feel is made from the 'Ōhi'a Lehua — one of the most cherished native trees in Hawai'i, and the very tree Hawaiian Rainforest Naturals is named for. HRN is headquartered at the edge of an 'Ōhi'a Lehua rainforest on the Big Island, and the plant has been part of the practice since Melia and Joy began making essences in 1992.
This essence holds a foundational place in the collection: it's the one made for feeling itself — not one specific emotion, but the capacity to feel anything fully and express it honestly. Where Papaya addresses release and Wild Azalea addresses self-judgment, Lehua addresses the root relationship with your own emotional life.
I've always felt a deep connection to the 'Ōhi'a Lehua — it's the tree our practice is named for, and it grows right at our doorstep. When I first started working with the Lehua flower, I noticed that it was me who needed it most! I had many suppressed feelings that were still active within me and it fostered a lot of stress and confusion. Once I started using our Lehua flower essence, those old emotions and the memories attached to them began to flow. I took responsibility for expressing them. I began using movement to express old anger and it felt so good! Gardening and free dance became my outlet to air-punch old memories of being hurt. I realized that I was powerful not defeated.
Lehua helped me come back to my real self, not the person other people wanted me to be. It gave me permission to feel — not just the hard things, but the good things too. That's what makes this essence so special to me: it doesn't just help you express what you might be feeling — it helps you remember your authentic feelings in the first place.

The Teaching
The 'Ōhi'a Lehua holds sacred status in Hawaiian culture — used in hula, lei-making, and healing rituals passed down through generations. Melia's training in lāʻau lapaʻau (Hawaiian herbal medicine) and hula connects directly to this tree's traditional role, and for over 30 years she and her mother Joy have gathered its blossoms with the same reverence their teachers taught them.
HRN itself is headquartered at the edge of an 'Ōhi'a Lehua rainforest — the tree isn't just an ingredient here, it's the literal ground the practice stands on.
Morrnah Simeona taught us that our emotions are not something to be afraid of. When we suppress a feeling, we suppress our own truth, this needs to be cleaned up. The 'Ōhi'a Lehua reminds us that feeling is not weakness. It is the foundation of being fully alive. Lehua flower essence gives us permission to feel what we feel, without judgment.

The Lineage and Legacy →The Plant
The 'Ōhi'a Lehua is one of the most cherished native trees in Hawai'i — thriving in volcanic soil from sea level to over 9,000 feet, blooming with fiery red blossoms on lava fields and misty mountain ridges alike. Lehua is often the first flower to bloom on young barren lava fields and can grow in the most harsh conditions. It is sacred in hula, lei-making, and healing rituals, and is understood as a symbol of strength, transformation, and devotion. The 'Ōhi'a Lehua is also the Kinolau of the volcano Goddess Pele. She can take many forms like, lava, steam, a young or old woman and even the beautiful 'Ōhi'a Lehua tree.
In the HRN flower essence collection, Lehua is associated with the Root Chakra — the center of grounding, presence, connection to the land beneath you, and the connection to your own roots - your early childhood experiences. This is distinct from Papaya's Sacral Chakra or Wild Azalea's Crown Chakra; Lehua works at the foundation of the energy body and can connect you back to your first energetic experiences, which is part of why it's often the first essence people are drawn to.

Applications
Lehua meets you wherever feeling has become difficult — whether that's confusion, grief, disconnection, or simply forgetting how to notice what's true for you.
For those moving through the loss of a person, a relationship, or a life that didn't turn out as planned. Lehua doesn't rush grief — it supports safely feeling it so it can move rather than staying stuck.
For those who feel shut down or disconnected from their own emotional life — unsure what they actually feel, or unable to access feeling at all. Lehua helps reopen that channel gently.
For those who hold back their real feelings out of fear of rejection or conflict. Lehua supports the confidence to say what's true, in ways that strengthen rather than threaten the relationship.
For those in a season of transition — heartbreak, a major life change, or simply not knowing which way is up. Lehua's connection to the Root Chakra offers grounding when everything else feels unstable.
For those who tend to override their own instincts and make choices based on what others expect. Lehua helps you hear your own inner voice again.
For those seeking a felt, embodied connection to the natural world — not just an idea of it. Lehua is the essence most directly tied to HRN's home rainforest, and carries that connection into your own body.
Who This Is For
You feel deeply, but sometimes you don't know what to do with those feelings.
Maybe you’ve learned to keep your emotions to yourself. You say “I’m fine” when there’s more you really want to say. You may find it hard to tell someone how you feel, ask for what you need, or simply give yourself permission to feel without judging yourself.
Maybe you’ve spent so much time taking care of everyone else that you’ve forgotten to listen to your own heart.
Lehua Feel is for those moments when you’re ready to come back to yourself.
It invites you to notice what you’re feeling, honor those emotions, and find healthy ways to express what is true for you. Because your feelings are not something separate from who you are. They are a part of you.
When you allow yourself to truly feel, you may begin to understand yourself more deeply—and create more honest, meaningful connections with the people and world around you.
“Feelings are such an authentic part of who we are. Sometimes we try to push them away or hide them, but they are still there, asking us to listen. Lehua reminds us to feel what we feel and to honor that part of ourselves. There is so much depth in the story of Pele and Lehua, and it reminds us that our emotions are part of our journey. When we can feel and express ourselves in a healthy way, we can connect more deeply with who we truly are.”
How to Use
Under the Tongue
5 drops directly under the tongue, or in water, juice, or tea. Use 3–5 times a day — morning, afternoon, and evening, and anytime you feel blocked or want to express something. For a deeper effect use daily for 2 weeks.
Add to Water
10 drops in your water bottle for sustained support — useful when you're working through something that isn't a single moment but an ongoing season of feeling.
Apply Topically
Rub into hands, wrists, or the back of the neck. A good option if you're sensitive to alcohol or want a grounding, physical way to connect with the essence in the moment.
Combine for Specific Situations
With Tī for Harmony — when thoughts and feelings feel conflicted. With Wild Azalea for Inspiration — for creative expression. When combining more than 2 essences, decrease to 3 drops of each.
Questions
No. While Lehua is often reached for to help release old unexpressed emotions, it also supports the enhancement of how we currently feel. We can use lehua to feel more love and passion in our relationships. Lehua helps us feel safe and grounded so our feelings can flow. Sometimes we don't express the deep love we feel out of fear of rejection. But remember that when we express the love we feel - we also get to feel it! If you've buried a feeling of any kind for too long, this essence is formulated to help it move.
Lehua addresses your relationship with feeling itself — the ability to notice and express what's true for you. Wild Azalea addresses self-acceptance — how we truly feel about ourselves and how we can nurture more kindness to self and quiet our self criticism. They're often used together, and are paired as the Inspiration Combination for creative work specifically. Inspiration combo helps to express your true feelings through art, writing or dance without judgement.
That's a normal part of the process. It usually means feelings that were suppressed are starting to surface — a sign the essence is doing exactly what it's formulated to do. Be gentle with yourself, breathe, and give the feeling room rather than pushing it back down.
Harmony combines Lehua and Tī in a 2oz bottle, made for those who feel conflicted between thoughts and feelings — when your head and heart seem to be pulling in different directions. Lehua brings you back to what you feel; Tī helps clear the mental noise so the two can align.
Grounding comes first. In the HRN framework, feeling safe requires a stable foundation — the felt sense of being present in your body and connected to the earth beneath you. Lehua works at that root level, which is often why the emotional shift follows a physical settling, rather than the other way around.
Two pre-blended combinations include Lehua:
Lehua is also one of three plants in Stress Release Formula (with Kīnehe and Yellow Ginger) and Natural Bliss (with Wild Azalea and Bamboo Orchid).
