Where This Essence Began
Kīnehe Fresh Start Our relationship with Kīnehe began with our Kumu, Papa Henry Auwae, who held a deep appreciation for this humble Hawaiian plant. Papa Henry used Kīnehe every day, making a tea from its leaves and drinking it throughout the day. He attributed much of his health and vigor to this plant—one that many people simply consider a weed, or even a nuisance.
Through Papa Henry, we learned to see Kīnehe differently: not by its appearance or by how others valued it, but by the gifts it had to offer. In many ways, that teaching reflects the essence itself— sometimes when we change the way we see something, we discover possibilities that were there all along.
Kīnehe is a foundational essence—one that can support almost anyone when life feels uncertain, stagnant, or ready for change. Kīnehe has been part of the Hawaiian Rainforest Naturals flower essence collection since 1992. It is hand-gathered wild in the Puna and Kaʻū districts of Hawaiʻi Island, and especially love gathering it on the slopes of Mauna Loa. Although Papa Henry has passed, his teachings and spiritual presence remain very much a part of our work. Each time we prepare Kīnehe Flower Essence, we ask his permission and guidance, honoring the relationship and teachings he shared with us.
